Organization Renaming

Each organization on GitHub has two names. One is the display name. This is what people see on the organization's landing page. This is set on the (Organization > Settings > General) page and teams are free to set this as they see fit.

The other is what is known as the organization-slug, this is the part of the URL for the organization. For example the slug for Devex is umn-devex and the url is https://github.com/umn-devex. The organization-slug is what is used by Devex for various automation tasks and is keyed to other resources, for example the groups in Grouper that manage users.

Teams should not change the slug. We do monitor for changes and will revert it back. If a change to the slug is required, send an email to devex@umn.edu to open a TDX ticket to request a change and Devex will work with you to get it updated.

Note: Each organization-slug is required to start with umn-<CESI_UNIT>
